Jason McNear

Jason McNear is a veteran singer/songwriter, guitarist and performer, with 35 years experience including 22 as a solo act. He has won awards for songwriting, composed two musicals, and in the earlier days been in bands that supported big Aussie acts like Hoodoo Gurus, Huxton Creepers, and Ups and Downs. Jason is in the process of recording his second album, due for release during 2021. His first album, Harlequin Moon from 2018, ranges from energy-filled rockers to ballads and even a gothic-western song. It is available on bandcamp and CD, and consists of full-band renditions of 8 of Jason's originals.

 

The main focus of Jason's current act is playing innovative originals on acoustic guitar, although he will occasionally bust out a well-chosen cover song, including by such acts as Death Cab For Cutie, Neil Young, Youth Group, and Midnight Oil. Jason lives local to the area, and is actively involved in Geelong's live music and open mic scene.
